Sitting comfortably - part 1

Got together with Mr Angle Grinder & his friend Mighty Hammer! & fashioned a seat base today.

I had an old dual seat from my Royal Enfield sitting under the bench for several years & thought that it would be a good starting point...

 Not a straight bolt on though!!!

You can't really see it in the pictures, but I managed to get a turn down all round that stiffened up the whole thing. I'm now waiting for the rear mudguard to turn up so that I can make the rear mounting, then I can get the foam padding from the donor seat shaped.

Trials & Tribulations

This weekend has been a bit up & down. I started Saturday off a little fed up as the more I looked at stuff the more I saw was crap! Both sets of forks are fubared, a lot of the parts are in poor condition, & I was starting to think 'what the hell have I bought!!'

Best have a cuppa & get on with it then!!

Firstly mounted the mini speedo I picked up from the 'bay of fools' for less than a tenner! although I'm going move it to the center which means relocating the ignition switch.

(Yes that bloody awful headlamp will be going!)

Mr Angle-Grinder & I had an afternoon appointment & we whooped the front mudguard into rough shape, starting to feel much better now!

Today (Sunday) I set about sorting how to hide the electrics & mounting the battery. The CDI unit, fuses, & little regulator will all sit on a plate under the seat, 

The main regulator is going to be mounted on the frame backbone, under the tank,  There is a big gap & it should get plenty of airflow.

The starter solenoid & indicator relay will be mounted on the top engine mounting plates.

I mocked up the battery support out of some copper pipe, to get the rough shape & position that I want & fabbed up a bracket to mount the battery strap.

Managed to get a couple of hours in this weekend, & got the tank roughly mounted, (just got in from watching Saracens get through to the rugby Premiership final today!).

I had to cut off & move the rear mounting plate, and tacked it into position. The front mountings were originally two rubber grommets mounted on pins on the frame & the tank just slotted on to the rubber mountings. However, the custom tank that I'm using was originally bolted to the frame, so I ended up drilling & tapping the ends of the pins to take a bolt. I will need to get a couple of spacers & sleeves made up, but that's the tank more or less sorted for the moment.

Result & ponderings

I had some contact with the seller the other day & picked up a few more bits that he'd found, which included a brand new battery & a workshop manual on cd, result!!

I've been looking & pondering where / how to start, get it going or get it looking the way I want, & have decided that as it is already part loosley assembled I will continue in that vane & make the fabrication changes required before pulling it apart & sorting properly.

Thanks to a mate I was able to pick up the bike & bits this morning.  I then spent the afternoon trying to sort out parts that will be used, parts that are salvageable to sell & the rest that is shite! As you might expect when you buy something in bits like this there was quite a bit of shite, some saleable parts & a few bit missing! Oh well! it's what I expected I guess! Next thing to get will be a workshop manual so I can at least look like I know what I'm doing!
